Eczema, You're Getting on My Last Nerve! The Story Behind Be Soothed™
Four-panel cartoon showing Aunt Be with curly red hair awake in bed scratching itchy eczema-prone skin while her Cane Corso, Paisley, sleeps peacefully, then Aunt Be applies Be Soothed™ CBG + CBD cream and finally sleeps comfortably through the night.
When the itch won't quit, neither will Aunt Be!
If you've ever had eczema, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
That relentless, maddening, make-you-want-to-crawl-out-of-your-own-skin ITCH!
The kind that wakes you up at 2 a.m., scratching like you've got fleas. Except the dog is sleeping peacefully, and you're the one losing your mind!
Trust me, I've been there.
I've been formulating natural skincare since 2012, and two of my longtime products, Be Smooth™ Eczema Balm and Be Free™ Rash Cream, have been wonderful for my skin.
Be Smooth™ does an amazing job protecting my moisture barrier and soothing dry, stressed skin. The problem? My itching would return after three or four hours.
Which meant another night of scratching instead of sleeping.
I'd tried the dermatologist's recommendations, steroid creams, prednisone, and allergy medications. Yet that damn itch kept coming back. Sometimes even worse!!
And frankly, I was over it!
A Little Experiment That Changed Everything
A few years ago, I'd made a CBG + CBD tincture just because I was curious about cannabinoids.
One particularly itchy day, I decided to mix some into my Be Anointed™ tallow balm.
Game changer!
My skin felt noticeably calmer. And being the curious formulator that I am, I wanted to know WHY.
So down the research rabbit hole I went. And what I discovered was fascinating!
Your Skin Has Its Own Cannabinoid System. Who Knew?
It's called the endocannabinoid system, and it's part of how your body helps keep things in balance, including your skin.
Scientists are studying how hemp-derived cannabinoids interact with pathways involved in inflammation, skin sensitivity, and yes, ITCHING!
Now we're talking!
Here's what caught my attention:
CBG (Cannabigerol): My personal favorite! Researchers are exploring its anti-inflammatory and skin-supporting properties. A small 2025 study of a CBD + CBG ointment in people with eczema reported encouraging results. This was one of the reasons I wanted CBG front and center.
CBD (Cannabidiol): Well known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, CBD is also being researched for its potential to support irritated, uncomfortable skin.
CBN (Cannabinol) and CBC (Cannabichromene): Two lesser-known cannabinoids in my blend. CBN has attracted attention for relaxation, while CBC is being explored for its potential anti-inflammatory properties. The science keeps getting more interesting!
And my blend is THC-free.
Then Along Came PEA. No, Not the Vegetable!
Palmitoylethanolamide, thankfully shortened to PEA, was another fascinating discovery.
It's a substance our bodies naturally produce, and researchers have been studying it for its potential role in calming skin irritation and itching.
A clinical study involving 72 adults with eczema found encouraging results from a PEA-containing cream.
An ingredient with research involving eczema symptoms and itchy skin?
You have my attention!
Let's Not Forget the Other Skin-Loving Goodies!
I've spent years perfecting my botanical skincare formulas, and I knew that calming the itch was only half the battle. My skin still needed all that rich, nourishing moisture to keep it soft, comfortable, and protected.
So I brought together some of my favorite skin-loving ingredients, each chosen for a very good reason!
Colloidal oatmeal: The old-fashioned itch-soothing superstar! Helps comfort itchy skin and protect the moisture barrier.
Beef tallow and shea butter: Rich, luxurious moisture that helps dry, tight, stressed skin feel soft and comfortable again.
High-linoleic sunflower oil: Not your everyday sunflower oil! I chose this special variety for its fatty acids that help support the skin barrier.
Evening primrose oil: Rich in beneficial fatty acids, including GLA, which has been studied for its relationship to inflammation.
Bisabolol: A soothing ingredient associated with chamomile, a botanical favorite for irritated skin.
Panthenol, glycerin, and vitamin E: My moisture-loving helpers that keep skin hydrated, conditioned, and feeling its best.
And when I combined these ingredients with CBG, CBD, PEA, and the other cannabinoids?
Be Soothed™ was born!
And Then Something Wonderful Happened...
Naturally, I was my own first guinea pig.
I started using Be Soothed™ on the areas where my eczema had been driving me absolutely bonkers.
My lower back stopped demanding constant scratching. My shins felt more comfortable. Even my hands started looking better.
And then came the moment I'd been hoping for.
I SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT WITHOUT WAKING UP SCRATCHING!
Do you have any idea how exciting that is when you've been playing midnight scratch-a-thon for months?
I practically wanted to throw a party!
My eczema can still flare. Even though I’ve been mostly gluten-free for over 10 years, I still get a hankering for freshly baked bread. When I indulge it sets off my itching like a five alarm fire, so I'm learning to pay attention to what my skin is telling me.
The difference for me has been finding a skincare formula that helps my skin feel comfortable for longer.
